Science & Cooking &Coding
Origin
Growing up in the San Francisco Bay Area I have been exposed to diverse cuisines grooming me as a foodie from a very young age. This passion drove me to start exploring the preparation of various foods and capturing live videos.
As I embarked on my high school years, the science behind the cooking started piquing my interests and I found the intersection fascinating. And as I started my programming classes in my freshman year of high school, I recognized the parallel between coding that goes into the creation of an app and the following of a recipe that results in a yummy dish.
To share my excitement I started posting my creations on my blog along with my cooking videos on my instagram account @rhudesfood
This convergence was the impetus for me to start the momentum around ScienceCookingCoding
I first teaching the intersection of cooking and coding to group of students from Technovation teams in India to ignite the love for coding through experiments in cooking. Based on that success I decided to expand the program and have signed up to speak at 3 middle schools. I am currently in conversation with Sunnyvale Library to partner with their new culinary and kitchen program. My teaching efforts are detailed on the Outreach page.
Cooking overlap with all subjects?
Soon I realized that cooking has overlap with pretty much all the subjects I can think of. In fact in each of my food posts there is always a section on History. I created a picture which takes a pizza as an example and tells a story of how you can learn about so many subjects by just exploring the recipe of pizza.
